What is Mapquest?

Mapquest is a free web mapping service owned and controlled by AOL. Map Quest was founded in 1967 as the Cartographic Services division of R.R. Donnelley & Sons in Chicago, Illinois, United States. In 1994 the company was renamed to GeoSystems Global Corporation. In the year 2000, Mapquest was acquired by America Online, Inc. Mapquest does not provide street level images anymore, however, their most powerful services and features are still there and they are even better now, like driving directions, live traffic updates, and even weather information. Mapquest also offers free mobile apps that allow users to get voice guided driving directions on the go. Users can also access this service/website via mobile web browsers. Mapquest also provides current GasPrices in any city and for any type of fuel, users can type their address and compare the gas prices of nearby public gas stations. The directions that this service provides are considered the best by most North American users, in other parts of the world Google is probably a better, more powerful option.
